For the Sunday session on the Richmond Stake Conference, Elder Cook pulled us in 15 minutes before the meeting and told us to be ready to speak again. ☺ Aaron was asked to bear a five minute testimony and, fortunately for me, I was off the hook. Elder Cook spoke about the need for prophets in the latter days and cited several examples of how prophets have taught the will of the Lord decades before the true impact of their prophesying was felt (word of wisdom, proclamation on the family, etc). He was the chair of the temple and family history department and shared that President Nelson is just getting started on temple announcements. He bore one of the best testimonies of the Savior I’ve ever heard and shared with us that he knew the Savior’s face and His voice. When he bore testimony of knowing without a doubt of the Savior’s reality and existence was absolutely amazing.
Another transfer week is upon us and as hard as it is to imagine we only have one more left. Aaron had a full day of departing interviews Sunday afternoon. Afterwards, we held our departure testimony meeting together and then enjoyed a copycat Costa Vida dinner I had prepared. Then finished the evening off with FHE for our six missionaries returning home at our home. Always a spiritual and fun evening. A great way to end their mission.
On Monday morning we took tor departing missionaries to the airport and received five new bright eyed missionaries. Our five new missionaries, include three sisters and two elders. We introduced them to Houston, missionary life in the great THSM and into our hearts. We can’t help but love each missionary that comes into our life. Jessie still loves to be a part of welcoming and “interviewing” new missionaries. I think her spirit of missionary work calms their nervous hearts.
I spent most of Tuesday at home catching up on my blog and emails since we had workers here replacing the windows on the front of the house. One of the projects that need to be done prior to the new mission president’s family gets here. On Wednesday, I was able to be a part of two companionship studies, one before and one after district council in downtown Houston. I will miss these experiences. Each is unique and spirit filled for me.
Jessie had a field trip to the Houston Museum of Natural Science on Thursday. I was able to tag along with her and 5 other friends throughout the field trip. We visited the “message in a bottle”, butterfly center, nature photography exhibit and watched the 3-D movie Big. We had fun and I was grateful I didn’t have to ride the bus to and from the museum.
Aaron and I went to an Astros game Friday night with a couple that we’ve gotten to know well since we arrived. It was fun to visit with them while watching the game. The Astros ended up losing 0-1. The boys played in the church basketball tournament Friday and Saturday. This is the third year in a row that they have won the tournament. Zac and Bode played great and had a lot of points. It’s fun to watch them play together. Jessie’s dance recital was this afternoon and she has two routines to perform in. Her Jazz is to La Bamba and Hip Hop is to Ice, Ice, Baby. She is a natural performer. She lit up the stage with her smile and moves.
The weather is beginning to return to more typical Houston humidity and heat. We’re back in the 90s every day. We have enjoyed and will miss the great unusual Spring weather. Life is good and we are blessed.
