Jessie gave a talk in primary this week. She shared on how we can “love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind”. She shared the song “I’m trying to be like Jesus”.
“I'm trying to be like Jesus;
I'm following in his ways.
I'm trying to love as he did, in all that I do and say.
At times I am tempted to make a wrong choice,
But I try to listen as the still small voice whispers,
Love one another as Jesus loves you.
Try to show kindness in all that you do.
Be gentle and loving in deed and in thought,
For these are the things Jesus taught."
She challenge the kids that a great way to help them be like Him was to participate in the #Lighttheworld, in 25 ways over 25 days. Jessie truly took this to heart this week. She shared this message with her friend Sebrina and had me invite her mom and her family to participate. It was a good experience for both of us. Sebrina came to our ward Christmas party on Friday and Jessie has also invited her to come to primary on Sunday. She has a great desire for Sebrina to know Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ and how they bring her happiness.
My message for the missionaries this week. A few thoughts as you share the #LIGHTtheWorld Christmas initiative with members and how they can share it with others.
For members, sharing the gospel can be as simple as extending an invitation, asking a question, or joining in a conversation. As we help them prepare their hearts to share the gospel, the Lord will direct them to those who are ready to hear it. Elder Dallin H. Oaks said that “when we are standing as ‘witnesses of God at all times and in all things’ (Mosiah 18:9), the Lord will open ways for us to find and have appropriate communications with those who are seeking.
This will come when we seek direction (Pray for the desire and inspiration) and then act out of a sincere and Christlike love for others.” President Thomas S. Monson said in the October 2013 general conference, “[The Lord] has prepared the means for us to share the gospel in a multitude of ways, and He will assist us in our labors if we will act in faith to fulfill His work,”
One of these ways is the #LIGHTtheWorld that can be shared face to face with an invitation to watch the video on their phones, come for FHE to watch the video, a pass a long card, through social media…… Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram or twitter. The Church has put together many resources to like or share content online, including memes, quotes, and videos. Take the opportunity to help members use their devices to share and invite others to join "in 25 ways, over 25 days” on mormon.org.

Follow Our Savior Jesus Christ. In 25 Ways. Over 25 Days. Mobile Advent Calendar. Every day leading up to Christmas is a chance to look at the things Jesus Christ did and resolve to do the same. To help, we'll be providing daily inspiration, suggestions, and encouragement on how we can follow the example of Jesus Christ and #LIGHTtheWORLD.
Please invite and help your members invite their neighbors, friends and families to participate in #LighttheWorld
I headed to one of the district’s meeting on Tuesday morning and then enjoyed lunch with my visiting teacher and the other sister she visits. This is always a bright spot for me during the month. I think I have mentioned this before but our visits fill me on multiple levels. Visiting teachers Rock!
Aaron started interviews on Thursday in the Bay City Zone. I met with the missionaries to discuss how to make sure those they are working with are ready for baptism using a baptism progress record that goes along with the investigators teaching record. I did role-plays with the missionaries and walked them through didn’t scenarios so they will think through how to best help their investigators on a personal level.
We met with the Mission Leadership Council to help our zone leaders and sister training leaders understand why, what and how of accountability. When they understand that are accountable to the Lord each day for what they do, many of the challenges they face are resolved. Aaron shared with them the account of the Savior’s call to the new apostles in Matt chapter 4 where you see them drop their nets and follow him. (In the reference in vs. 20 it says commitment) Fast forward three years and after having walked, talked, and served with the Savior every day, you see them go back to their nets. In John 20 the Savior then calls to them as they are fishing and we have the amazing exchange between He and Peter. Three times the Savior asks Peter if he loves Him more than these. Each time the Savior then commands him to feed His sheep. We discussed how the Lord expects our continued commitment and that are work is never done. He will hold us accountable to feed His sheep in whatever capacity we are called.
Bode had his second game on Wednesday ending in a loss. Zac didn’t have any games this week. It is tournament season so some weeks will be full of games and others with none. Allie took Christmas pictures with her roomates. They turned out really cute! What fun girls!
We had our ward Christmas party this week and it was a mix of Chinese/American “traditional” Christmas dishes. Jessie invited her friend Sebrina from school and together they sang a Chinese song in front of the group. Jessie is quite the missionary as she invites everyone without any fear. We also had invited two non-members families from our street to attend the dinner that came as well. It was a fun evening even the boys found it entertaining.
Jessie had her gymnastics Winter Olympics on Saturday. She was very nervous but excited to perform each of her four routines. As she performed she reminded me a lot of Megan. Her gymnastic skills are slowly coming along but she loves it and is a joy to watch. Zac drove him and Bode to the Houston temple yesterday and did baptisms. Afterwards they hung out at the Shivo’s talking about their experience here in Texas. We are having a rainy coldspell and the temps are are in the 50’s. Way too cold for the south and we will freeze when we get home. Maybe December will feel like Christmas!
