On Sunday after church, Jessie and some of her friends from primary wanted to get together on Tuesday to make slime. I offered to host on Monday. We invited 6 girls beginning at 9:30. The girls planned activities included making slime, playing games, making slime again, learning the card game speed and topping it off with lunch and swimming. It was a great day of girlfriend fun and Jessie loved it! I thought it was important to have this day since I would be involved in more interviews with the missionaries this week.
Jessie was a sport and came with me to do her role plays with the missionaries while I continued to share my ideas about ensuring their weekly plans rolled into their daily plans. I also gave them the opportunity to ask questions too. The questions are as diverse as the missionaries. Jessie would chime in to answer for me, it was pretty cool how much she could share with them from her perspective. Moments like this make me smile at her intuitiveness.
Allie has been busy getting herself settled and prepared for the year at UVU. She and her former roommates cleaned out their apartment from last year. She and Saige are setting up their current place and figuring out what they still need. She also had to complete the paper work for her new job. Lots of “Adulting” right now. ;)
Jessie and I went school supply shopping in preparation for “Meet the Teacher” night. It is quite the list every year. Supplies in hands we got to meet both her homeroom teacher, Mrs. Hitzel, and her split teacher, Mrs. Kinsey. She is very excited for her teachers, she feels like she got the best ones. Yeah! Starting the new year off right.
The kids and I went to Top Golf for a last summer hurrah on Friday! I didn’t realize that a junior member, Jessie, allows us to play for half price if we play before 5. Sweet Bonus!! We played for an hour and half. During that time, I saw a switch for temperature control so I turned it on thinking it was AC. It was 105 that day so I wanted some cool air. Unfortunately, the temperature control was for heating purposes only. Yikes! The server girl quickly caught my mistake fortunately for us. :$
Last night we went to dinner with the two new Houston area mission presidents and their wives. One of the sisters is really missing home and struggling to know what her role is. They’re all feeling overwhelmed, underqualified and like deer in headlights. Those feelings never really leave but as you begin to develop relationships with the missionaries, they get pushed aside for the most part until you have a little more time to think. I remember those days like it was yesterday. Oh, I still have days like that. ;) I reassured the sisters that knowing what to do comes with time and sharing what I’ve learned along the way. I also emphasize that they will get the impressions or ideas of what will bless their missionaries and mission as they turned in pray for help. It would be wonderful if there was a more effective way to share best practices more easily as we are all making it up as we go. I’m not sure if what I said helped or made them feel even more overwhelmed, but we all had a lot of fun getting together.
Aaron got a good 40 mile ride in Saturday morning and I ran a nice 7 miles. The humidity is not going away nor is the heat. It’s another pool kind of day in Texas. Zac and Bode got in on the fun leaping in from the roof. Jessie wanted to jump from high heights too so we pulled the ladder out for her to jump from. She and I also did some stunts and “water dancing”. With Jessie’s creativity we are always in for a good time. One thing I’m almost positive of we’re going to freeze and that we will want a pool in the summer! I am hoping boating will fill that want when we get home. ;) Zac and Bode went to the stake beach bash down on Galveston Island later this afternoon. They had a great time with their friends from other wards.
Allie called tonight asking how to change a flat tire on her car. Her, Saige and Hallie tried real hard but finally had to ask for help getting the flat tire off but they got the spare on themselves. She will take the flat tire to Big O on Monday. Go girl power!
We are seeing and are grateful for the wonderful things happening here in the great Texas Houston South.
