I had another great week of spending time with two sets of sisters in companionship study. I was also able to go to two district councils as well. The focus of the district councils this week was extending the invitation to come to church. We listed all the reasons why we and those investigating the church would desire to attend church and then we put the key principles into a simple lesson plan. When we’re done my personal lesson that I would teach would look like the following…
“The reasons why I attend church each week are many and I know that the Lord promises that His Spirit will always be with me. For me, I attend each week to show my faith in Jesus Christ and participate in the sacrament. By partaking of the sacrament, I am made clean and it allows me to renew my covenants and promises with God. The Savior gave us the sacrament to remember Him, to take upon His name, and to help us keep His commandments. The sacrament is the way I remember the Savior’s sacrifice as he paid for our sins and died for us, an opportunity to repent (change) to be a better person and leave my weaknesses behind and coming to church each week cleanses me so I can retain a remission of my sins. When I do these things, He promises me that I will always have His Spirit to be with me. This is the greatest gift I can receive each week and with the Spirit, I am guided, comforted, and given heavenly help and direction each day. I attend church each week to demonstrates my love for God as keep the Sabbath day holy. My obedience of keeping this a sacred day is a sign that I show Him as I do my best to follow His will. The Sabbath was given to us as a day of rest from the world and it allows me to show more gratitude for all that God has given me. I also attend to continually learn of Him and ways to improve. I also am given an opportunity to serve and bless others through my calling and I am strengthened by others who serve me in their callings. This is something that gives me encouragement I need to remember the Savior and keep His commandments.” I would then share the blessings that they could have and feel when they attend church and invite them to attend church.
After the Lake Jackson District Council, I met with each companionship to share with them the training I did during the time I spent with missionaries while Aaron was interviewing other missionaries. He had met with this district on a Sunday when I wasn’t able to attend. They were grateful for going out of my way to take the time to be with them especially since I had just attended their council meeting the week before.
On Wednesday, Bode and some friends gathered at IHOP for a birthday breakfast. Bode and one of his friends both have birthdays this week. They had a good time and ate pretty well. Maybe a little too much. When I picked them up they worried they were going to lose their breakfast during P.E. since it was 1st period.
I had another companionship study session and district council meeting today. Afterwards, I took Bode to an orthodontist appointment. Gratefully his teeth are moving as planned. He is really good about wearing his invisalign retainers. Later that night Jessie and I went to her school’s open house. The focus was on Arts. The third grade had a choir performance. Jessie had a made a turtle dish in art and a project she made in cub clubs that she was very excited to show me. She is definitely my most artistic and not limited by the medium. She loves all aspects of art.
At our mission leadership council on Friday we focused on increasing the number of contacts we have each day. We need to be talking to more people. Aaron liken it to batting averages, if we don’t go the plate, we’ll never get enough hits. Even though we aren’t a mission that has devices, we are looking at more ways we can utilize social media to connect members with investigators. Aaron is piloting as many options as I can to reach out and connect with people. The missionaries will be showing the members how to directly messenger their friends via Facebook and Instagram in personal and authentic way.
Bode finally got his haircut for his birthday, he looks like a new man. For a combined birthday celebration we went to Blaze pizza and Escape Again. We did a hiking themed room. It was much more elaborate then the one we did over Christmas. We had a good time and we escaped with 30 seconds left. We were happy with our time and then enjoyed ice cream afterwards. Bode had gifts that came in the mail that he was excited for. He also has some friends taking him to Air Zone on Saturday so he has had a pretty good birthday. Zac is still hobbling around with his sprained ankle. We are staying busy. ;)
